There is an unmistakable link between traumatic brain injury (TBI) and dementia. By collecting data on younger veterans with TBI, our studies will track neurological and physiological changes earlier, providing an unprecedented explanation of how TBI evolves into dementia. With our innovative research and non-invasive approach, we will facilitate a cure in a family-oriented, holistic, and homelike environment.
TBI & Dementia Research
From 2000-2016 the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) recorded 361,092 cases of TBI in veterans. Researchers already have found that older veterans with TBI have a 60 percent greater risk of developing dementia over a nine-year period than older veterans without the injury. – Military.com
However, there has been very little research on the changes happening in younger veterans with TBI, and how it evolves into Alzheimer’s. More comprehensive research is needed to exploit these neurological changes happening over time.
Through a voluntary program, the following data will be collected for 5-10 years:
- Any changes in the brain, utilizing MRI’s
- Blood pressure, heart rate, and sleeping patterns (using monitors worn on the wrist).
- Nutritional and diet information, to include urine and deposits (collected with smart toilets).
- Regular lab work, such as blood tests.
Data captured over the years will be compared to research findings on elderly with dementia (121 types identified). This data will be used to help find a cure for Alzheimer's and dementia.
